Water yam porridge is a special kind of porridge that is cooked by the western people of my country. These people are called the Yoruba. Water yam porridge is a porridge cooked in a different way with meat, fishes, shrimp, and some vegetables. Water yam porridge is usually cooked during festivals and other big occasions, and it is usually served as lunch. It can also be served in big restaurants in Nigeria. People in the western part of Nigeria have been cooking water yam porridge for generations and they still cook it now. This food is so important to me because it reminds me of my grandma who makes it for us any time we pay her a visit in the village.

First you boil a large amount of water in a big pot depending on how much you want to cook. Add pepper and a lot of spices and let it boil for a long time. Then peel your yam and blend it (raw). Put a little salt in the yam when blending and mix. Then put those blended yams in the boiling water with some ingredients scoop by scoop and let it cook for a little time like 3 minutes. After that, you will add oil and meat, fish, or chicken and cover to cook for about 15 or 20 minutes.
